About Hockey Hall of Fame
The Hockey Hall of Fame (HHOF) is an esteemed organisation that recognises and rewards individuals for their exceptional achievements in the sport of ice hockey. Headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the Hockey Hall of Fame is both a museum and an induction site for hockey greats. It is a museum that specialises on the history of ice hockey and features exhibits about the sport’s greats, including records, memorabilia, teams, players, and the Stanley Cup and other NHL trophies. HHOF Selection Committee choose the Hall of Fame Inductees annually. Under James T. Sutherland’s direction, the Hockey Hall of Fame emerged in 1943 in Kingston, Ontario.
The Hall of Fame did not have a permanent home when it inaugurated its first class of distinguished members in 1945. When the National Hockey League stopped supporting the International Hockey Hall of Fame in Kingston, Ontario, in 1958, it relocated to Toronto. In 1961, the Hockey Hall of Fame unveiled its inaugural permanent structure at Exhibition Place. Originally, the hall located inside the Bank of Montreal building downtown Toronto. Then in 1993, the hall moved to its current Brookfield Place location. The International Ice Hockey Federation holds exhibitions and inductions into its Hall of Fame at the Hockey Hall of Fame since 1998.

Eligibility for Hockey Hall of Fame Eligibility 2024
A person who is or has been distinguished in any of the above disciplines is eligible for election provided he or she meets the following eligibility criteria:

Excluding games played only or primarily for charitable or recreational purposes, or any other limited purpose that the Chair of the Board of Directors determines should not disqualify a person otherwise eligible.
Application Portal for Hockey Hall of Fame Eligibility 2024
The Hockey Hall of Fame lacks a public application process. The Selection Committee members exclusively submit official nominations of candidates for election into Honored Membership. They consider these nominations at the Annual Elections Meeting. Each member of the Hockey Hall of Fame Selection Committee may not make more than:
- one (1) nomination for election in the Player Category;
- one (1) nomination for election in the Builder Category; and
- one (1) nomination for election in the Referee or Linesman Category,
- for each annual election proceeding.
The Selection Committee members nominate candidates annually in writing. They must file the nominations with the Chair of the Board of Directors or Selection Committee by midnight (Toronto time) on April 15 every year. A nomination remains valid and effective only for the election proceedings in the same calendar year filed.
Unless otherwise approved by the Board of Directors, the Annual Elections Meeting is held in June and the Annual Induction Ceremony is held in November.
Members of the Selection Committee shall be provided with the fullest possible data concerning the record and the merits for each candidate nominated.
The Hockey Hall of Fame has established certain criteria with respect to the circulation of public submissions to the Selection Committee. Qualifying public submissions must be received by March 15 in each year to be circulated prior to the aforesaid April 15 nomination deadline.
So while the Hockey Hall of Fame itself doesn’t accept public nominations, public suggestions can still be indirected considered through partnering hockey organizations.

- Nominations must be formally submitted either directly to the Hockey Hall of Fame Selection Committee or to partnering organizations like New Hampshire’s Legends of Hockey. These external groups have their own processes to then nominate worthy candidates to the Selection Committee.
- The Selection Committee thoroughly reviews all nominated candidates, evaluating worthiness, and votes on induction. To committee elects anyone who get 75% of final ballots.
- The Hockey Hall of Fame contacts inductees to welcome the newly elected honorees.
- Finally, the prestigious induction ceremony event is held annually in November to celebrate and commemorate new Hockey Hall of Fame members and their hockey achievements.

- Submissions shall contain the fullest possible data concerning the record and the merits of the person eligible for nomination and election.
- The Chair of the Board of Directors circulates general letters of opinion and support to the Selection Committee at his discretion or if the letters belong to a bona-fide submission.
- Any person can file a submission for only one eligible candidate in each annual nomination and election proceeding.
- To facilitate circulating materials to the Selection Committee before the official nomination deadline, submitters should file submissions with the Chair of the Board of Directors by March 15. Otherwise, the submission defers to the next year’s nomination and election proceeding.
- Persons submitting support materials like bound documents, newspaper clippings, photographs, or audio-visuals should either: (i) digitally submit one copy in a format acceptable for posting on the Selection Committee’s private Intranet site, or (ii) submit twenty hard copies of the materials for courier delivery to the Selection Committee at the Submitter’s confirmed expense.
Note: Members of the Selection Committee are prohibited from soliciting letters of support or other means of public petitioning in conjunction with any official nomination.
