About AILET

AILET (All India Law Entrance Test) is a national-level admission examination for candidates interested in pursuing studies at NLU-affiliated colleges/institutions. NLU is the primary authority organising the AILET admission exam every year. This exam allows candidates to gain admission to the institutions and courses they desire at the university.

The test Centres include Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Cuttack, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna, Raipur and Varanasi.

AILET Eligibility 

Only candidates who fulfil all the requirements of the AILET entrance test are eligible for the examination. The overall details of the eligibility criteria for different courses are available here, so you must have a view of them before applying.

For B.A., LLB (Hons.) Course
  • The age of the GEN/OBC candidates should not be more than 21 years as of 1st July 2025, and for those SC/ST/, it will be 23 years.
  • Candidates in the final year of their qualifying examination can also apply for the AILET 2025 examination, but they must show their passing certificate, which is compulsory during the admission procedure.
  • The candidates must have passed their 12th from the recognized university/board with 50% marks.
  • Candidates who are foreign nationals should have an aggregate of 65% marks in the 10+2 examination. NRI candidates are not required to apply for the AILET test, as they can be directly admitted if an eligibility criterion is satisfied.
  • For admission, GEN/OBC candidates must secure 40% marks in the AILET exam (30% in the case of SC/ST).
For  LLM Course
  • The candidates must have a minimum of 55% marks in LLB or its equivalent degree for GEN/OBC candidates (50% for SC/ST candidates).
  • For admission, foreign national candidates should have an aggregate of 55% marks in their qualifying degree. They are further called for a personal interview to check their communication skills in English.
For PhD Course

The candidates who fulfil either one of these eligibility will be permitted for admission to the doctoral course.

  • The applying candidate must have a master’s degree in law from a recognized university with percentage criteria of at least 55% for unreserved category and 50% marks for reserved category candidates.
  • For the Ph.D. program, applicants must possess a degree in law and a master’s degree with an M.Phill in social science or humanities.
  • The candidate with a Lam and Ph.D. degree in any stream is also eligible for the doctoral course from NLU.
  • If the candidate has 3 years of experience as a judge in any high court or Supreme Court of India, then he/she will be eligible.

AILET Application Requirements 

The following documents will be needed by candidates during the application procedure for AILET 2025, hence they are urged to have them on hand. If you want to fill out an AILET form in 2025, you’ll need the following items:

  • Class 10th mark sheet and certificate
  • Class 12th mark sheet and certificate (if available)
  • Graduation mark sheet and certificate (For LLM – if available)
  • Passport size photograph with white background (Size should be less than 1 MB, format .jpg/.jpeg)
  • Scanned signature (maximum size 1 MB, format – .jpg/.jpeg)
  • BPL certificate (if you belong to the BPL category) (Max size – 2 MB)
  • Passport (if you belong to a Foreign National (FN) category) (Max size – 2 MB)
  • Email and valid mobile number
  • Latest character certificate
  • Transfer certificate
  • Relevant category certificate (for SC, ST, OBC, J&K category students)
