About NEET
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate), also known as NEET (UG), was formerly known as the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT). It is an entrance exam for undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS), and AYUSH (BAMS, BUMS, BHMS, etc.) programmes in public and private universities in India and for students planning to do primary medical training outside of India.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) administers the test. It reports the results to the State Counselling Authorities and the Directorate General of Health Services, both of which are part of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, to allocate seats. NEET-UG superseded several previous pre-medical examinations administered by individual states and medical schools. However, the exam was unable to take place in 2014 and 2015 due to lawsuits.
The NEET-UG is the only admissions exam that matters for all of India’s medical and dental schools. Among the many entrance exams offered in India, NEET UG attracts many students.
NEET Eligibility Criteria 2024
The NEET 2024 eligibility criteria regarding subjects and schooling have been updated. Now, candidates with Biology/Biotechnology as an additional subject and Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English can also take the exam. The official notice from NMC states that those who have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English are eligible for NEET-UG.
Furthermore, the restriction on candidates from Open Schools or private candidates has been lifted. Now, even those who have completed Class 12 from Open Schools can participate in NEET 2024.
The following are the eligibility criteria for NEET 2024:
- Nationality: Candidates should be Indian citizens, and NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and foreign nationals can also take NEET for MBBS or other medical courses in Indian institutes.
- Age Limit: Candidates must be 17 years old at the time of admission or will reach this age by December 31, 2024. The minimum birth date for candidates is December 31, 2007, and there is no upper maturity limit.
• Educational Criteria: Candidates must surpass Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English individually. The qualifying combine is 50% for General, 45% for General-PWD, and 40% for Reserved undefined candidates.
NEET 2024 Requirements
The NEET eligibility criteria 2024 is a foundational framework that filters out who can participate in this crucial medical entrance exam. NEET 2024 Application portal
NTA released the official NEET 2024 notification and information brochure along with the NEET 2024 application form on February 9, 2024. This year, the official website for the application has changed to www.neet.ntaonline.in. Log on to the official website of NTA to register for NEET 2024.
Step-by-step application process
The NEET 2024 application form-filling process is completely online. The process is divided into three to four steps, which are as follows:
1. Registration
Visit the official website of NTA NEET or neet.ntaonline.in or directly enter the link https://neet.ntaonline.in/frontend/web/registration/index
Click on the “New Candidate Register Here” tab and read the instructions
Click on ‘New Registration’ and read the instructions
Select the Identification type among Aadhaar Card, Digilocker ID, Academic Bank of Credits (ABC ID), Passport (Indian and non-Indian) and PAN Card
Note: This is a new step in the NEET 2024 registration form, launched this year, wherein the Identity Type selection has to be done at the beginning of the registration process.
Enter the following details on the NEET UG application form 2024:

2. Click on “Click here to log in”
- Login using the application number and password. As per the change, candidates can also log in through their Academic Bank Credit Account Number (ABC ID) and Digilocker ID apart from the ANEET 2024 Application Number and Password
- The NEET form 2024 will open on your screen
- Details entered during the registration process will be pre-filled in the application and cannot be changed
- Check all the details carefully as they cannot be changed after the final submission of the NTA NEET 2024 application form
- To submit the duly checked application form, click on “Yes, please do” on the confirmation pop-up
3. Upload scanned images and documents
- Click on “Upload your recent documents”
- Select the files to be uploaded
- Click on “Next”
4. Make Payment
To pay the NEET application fees for 2024, select the desired mode of payment (SBI/Syndicate/HDFC/ICICI/Paytm Payment Gateway through Debit Card/Credit Card/Net banking/UPI). The NEET exam fees for 2024 have remained the same as last year. Since the exam will not be conducted outside India, the category of outside India and the fee amount of INR 9,500 has been removed this year.
NEET Closing Date or Deadline
The below are the important registration dates for the NEET 2024 exams. Applicants must note this date very well because missing this date may affect their chances of writing the exam, which may also impact their admission to study medicine in India.

The NEET 2024 application form’s last date has been extended from March 9, 2024, to March 16, 2024, at 10.50 PM, and the application fee has to be paid by 11.50 PM on the same date. Also, NTA released a notification stating, “Registration for the online Application Forms of NEET (UG) – 2024 has been ongoing since 09 February 2024. During this time, we have received representations from stakeholders regarding the changes in NEET (UG) – 2024 and the extension of the registration window.”
