How To Get Shadow Mewtwo

To encounter Giovanni and catch Shadow Mewtwo, you’ll need to obtain a Super Rocket Radar by completing tasks in the new Special Research called “Ultra Beast Protection Efforts”.

To access this research, you must first finish any pending Team Rocket Research tasks. If you already have a Super Rocket Radar from previous research, it will still allow you to encounter Giovanni, bypassing the need to complete the tasks in “Ultra Beast Protection Efforts”.

However, if you choose to take on the Ultra Beast Protection Efforts, you should be aware that it consists of four tasks that you’ll need to complete to get a Shadow Mewtwo. For your convenience, we’ve provided a list of the tasks below:

Task 1: Beat Team Go Rocket Grunts

The first task is simple and involves defeating 6 Team Go Rocket Grunts, capturing 4 Shadow Pokemon, and purifying 2 Shadow Pokemon. Completing this task will earn you a Rocket Radar, which is used to locate the Team Go Rocket leaders for the next task.

Task 2: Defeat Team Go, Rocket Leaders

The next task involves defeating the three Team Go Rocket leaders: Arlo, Cliff, and Sierra. All three leaders use Shadow Pokemon in their lineups. They should not be too challenging to beat. After defeating all three leaders, you will be rewarded with a Super Rocket Radar, which can be used to locate Giovanni for the third task.

Task 3: Defeat Giovanni

In the third task, your objective is to locate and defeat the Team Go Rocket Boss, Giovanni. Finding him can be challenging as a Grunt may disguise himself as the boss. To ensure a successful battle, it’s wise to bring Pokemon that can counter Giovanni’s lineup, otherwise, you may have difficulty defeating him.

Task 4: Acquire Shadow Mewtwo

Upon defeating Giovanni, a Shadow Mewtwo will appear for the fourth and final task. All you need to do now is throw Pokeballs at it and consider using a Golden Razz Berry to improve your chances of capturing it.

The decision to purify a Shadow Mewtwo is up to the trainer. However, retaining a Shadow Mewtwo has its advantages, including a 20% damage increase per attack.

If you’re worried about Charged Move Frustration, you can still get rid of it without purifying the Shadow Mewtwo by participating in special events in Paldea.
