BDO Bursary Program 2025
The BDO Bursary targets students with a strong ability and interest in finance who aim to become Chartered Accountants. BDO seeks promising students who show great potential in the finance field. Applicants must demonstrate excellent academic performance and financial need. The bursary helps deserving students achieve their dreams of becoming Chartered Accountants by supporting their accounting studies based on academic merit and financial circumstances. Successful applicants receive funding to complete their BCom Accounting degree or equivalent. The funds awarded by the bursary program provide cover for the following:
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Books for each year of study
The bursary is limited to the listed expenses and it does not cover residence fees. Successful applicants either get full or half bursary based on their academic achievement and the financial resources available. The value of the bursary differs across the various BDO offices in SA.

Eligibility – BDO Bursary 2025 Requirements
Applicants must satisfy these minimum requirements before applying for the bursary award. Applications that do not meet these requirements will not receive further consideration. The requirements are as follows:
- Applicants must be citizens of South Africa
- Applicants must be enrolled at an accredited university that offers programs accredited by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
- Applicants cannot have a bursary, scholarship, or other financial aid that comes with work commitments or post-training contract job requirements;
- Applicants must be dedicated to getting a Certified Public Accountant (CA) qualification.
The following academic criteria must also be met:
For Matric Students, they must:
- Have the minimum B Grade in Mathematics
- Have the minimum B Grade in English (first or second language)
- Have the minimum 70% overall average
- Provide evidence that you have been provisionally accepted into the CA(SA) program from a university that is accredited by SAICA.
BDO will require shortlisted applicants to undergo a psychometric evaluation to determine their suitability. BDO will conduct interviews with all applicants.
For Applicants who are current university students, they must:
- Have the minimum of 70% in Accounts I
- Have a minimum of 70% in Accounts II
- Have the minimum of 65% in Accounts III
Applicants that satisfy these requirements will be shortlisted for interview.

The application for the bursary is in two forms:
Applicants can download and fill out the BDO Bursary 2025 Application Form(.pdf).
Applicants can also choose to apply via the BDO Bursary website. While applying, applicants are required to make available the following supporting documents:
- Identification documents
- Certificates and results of matric
- Complete academic results for students who are in tertiary level
Make sure the copies provided are certified copies and they are correct. Providing false documents or information can lead to disqualification of applications.
