SASSETA Bursary 2025 Deadline – The SASSETA Bursary 2025 is a program that provides unemployed South African youths financial support to promote education and training, continuous learning, and skills transfer and development in the South African safety and security industry. About The Bursary Provider

SASSETA (Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority) is committed to providing South African youths with opportunities for continuous learning in the security and safety industry. They also offer vocational skills training as well as skills transfer and development to South African youths.

SASSETA Bursary Program

SASSETA invites applications from South African youths aged 18 – 35 who are interested in the bursary program. The bursary is awarded to youths in the following selected fields:

  • IT programme Analysis
  • IT software development
  • IT programme development
  • LLB
  • Nursing
  • Pharmacy
  • Psychology
  • Paralegal Studies
  • Clinical Social Work
  • Security Management
  • Artisan and Engineering programmed addressing skills for the Economic Reconstruction and Recovery plan.

The bursary is provided to students once in an academic year. Students can renew the bursary yearly till the completion of their academic program duration. The allowances provided by the SASSETA bursary are:

For Full-Time Programmes

For students running full-time programs, they will be awarded R80,000. This will cover tuition fees, textbooks and other study materials, and University-approved or non-campus accommodation with food allowances.

Distance Learning or Part-time Programmes

Students who belong to this category are awarded R35,000 every academic year. This amount will cover tuition fees, textbooks, and other study materials.

Eligibility – SASSETA Bursary Requirements

The SASSETA Bursary has requirements that have to be met by applicants. Applicants that do not meet the requirements will not be considered. To qualify for the SASSETA Bursary, you must:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old.
  • Have completed your matriculation.
  • Be enrolled or registered in one of the listed fields at a recognized public university or TVET college in South Africa. (Students from private institutions can only apply if their course isn’t offered by a public institution.)
  • Have a household income of no more than R600,000 per year.
  • Be currently unemployed.
  • Not be participating in any other SASSETA-funded program (such as a skill program, leanership, or internship) in the upcoming financial year.
  • They will give preference to female students, students with disabilities, and students not receiving other bursaries or NSFAS funds.

  • Upload all the supporting documents in a sequence as per the SASSETA Bursary guidelines.

Documents Required

These are the required documents that are to be added along with your completed application form. All the documents listed here are compulsory. Applications with incomplete documents will not be accepted for the program.

  • A certified copy of your ID (no older than six months old)
  • Certified copy of the matriculation certificate or result statements
  • Proof of registration at a South African University for the academic year (on the letterhead of the institution)
  • Identification documents for parents and guardians (certified copies)
  • Proof of income or parents or guardians (the most recent payslips if employed, an affidavit in the event of unemployment or self-employment, proof of grant or pension if applicable)
