SASOL Bursary 2025 Application – SASOL invites applicants for a bursary opportunity. About The SASOL Bursary

In 1950, Sasol Limited, which is the very first oil-from-coal company, was established in Sasolburg, which is located in South Africa. Today, Sasol is a multinational corporation that operates in the fields of both energy and chemicals. It is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) in South Africa as well as the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in the United States. Two different market-focused businesses make up Sasol: the Chemicals business and the Energy business.

Sasol Limited is devoted to developing and commercializing technologies to produce low-carbon electricity, liquid fuels, and value-added chemicals. The company has also picked interest in the education and development of South Africa’s youth by making provisions for bursaries to students who are talented and want to study in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics fields.

Sasol bursary programs are for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Applicants can submit their applications for one of the following fields of study:

For Undergraduate Studies (B.Eng./B.Sc. )
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Chemistry (Hons. is a requirement for Sasol)

  • Data Science (Computer Science / Mathematics / Operations Research / Statistics)

  • Metallurgy (Hons. is a requirement for Sasol)

For Undergraduate Studies (B. Eng. Tech.) – University of Technology
  • Mine Surveying
  • Civil Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Instrumentation & Control Engineering (Electrical Light Current)
  • Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
  • Mechanical Engineering
For Postgraduate (M.Sc. / M.Eng. / Ph.D.)
  • Chemical Engineering – Fluid Dynamics
  • Chemical Engineering – Mathematical and Statistical Modelling
  • Chemical Engineering – Process Modelling
  • Chemical Engineering – Reactor Technology
  • Chemical Engineering – Separation Technology
  • Chemical Engineering – Thermodynamics
  • Chemistry – Advanced analytical Chemistry in the areas of Vibrational Spectroscopy or Gas Chromatography
  • Chemistry – Catalysis or Polymer Science
  • Chemistry – Environmental Science in the areas of Water, Waste or Air, or Air with a focus on dispersion modeling

  • Data Science – Applied Mathematics

Sasol Bursary Benefits

This Bursary helps to cover both financial and developmental support during the period of study.

For Undergraduate (University)

This bursary will cover expenses such as:

  • Registration fees
  • Tuition fees
  • Books and pocket money
  • Meal allowance
  • Accommodation allowance
  • Once-off computer and calculator allowance.
  • Provision of development opportunities (possible vacation work after completing the 2nd and 3rd year of study).
  • Psyche-social support (including student discussions/workshops / EAP – Employee assistance program @ Sasol etc).
For Undergraduate (University of Technology)

The bursary will provide cover for the following:

  • Tuition fees
  • Registration fees
  • Exam fees
  • Books and pocket money
  • Accommodation allowance and a meal allowance.
  • An opportunity to complete their academic requirements (S1 – S6) at a University of Technology and practical training aspects (P1, P2 if applicable) at Sasol.
For Postgraduate

They get cover for the following expenses:

  • Monthly stipend for the duration of their studies
  • Registration fees
  • Tuition fees
  • Research cost
  • Accommodation and all other expenses related to their studies.

NOTE: Any additional expenses will not be covered by the bursary award. Access to Sasol technical mentors for support will be given to students during their studies.

Students who were offered the bursary for the undergraduate category may be employed within the Sasol group after the completion of their studies. This will be done through the graduate development programs offered by the company. Recipients of the postgraduate bursary may be granted the opportunity to join the Sasol Graduate Development program. They will be added as Scientists in Training or as Engineers in Training. The Sasol bursary has a service contract that is inclusive of its program. In this program, students are obligated to complete the work-back/pay-back obligation and it is dependent on the needs of the company.

Eligibility – Sasol Bursary 2025 Requirements

To qualify for the bursary, applicants must have to satisfy the following requirements. Failure to meet all the requirements will make your application not to be considered by the bursary panel. The requirements are as follows:

For Undergraduate University and Univerity of Technology Bursary (B.Eng., B.Sc., and B.Eng. Tech Engineering)
  • Applicants must be a citizen of South African
  • Applicants must have completed Matric OR be currently in Matric but have not started with their first year of the studies.
  • Interested applicants must be registered or qualify to register for full-time studies, towards one of the undergraduate degree qualifications listed above, in 2025 (diploma studies will NOT be funded)
  • You must be registered or intend on studying at an accredited and approved University in South Africa (UNISA students will NOT be funded)
  • BEng and BSc applicants: Applicants must have achieved the following results:
    • Level 6 (70 to 79%) for Mathematics
    • Level 6 (70 to 79%) for Physical Science
    • Level 5 (60 to 69%) for English First Additional language OR
    • Level 5 (60 to 69%) for English home language OR
    • Level 4 (50 to 59%) for English as a Second Additional Language
  • Undergraduate students and Hons students: you must have achieved a minimum result of 50% for all courses registered for in the 2023 academic year
  • If already studying: you must be registered for the degree qualification for the minimum study period (i.e. 4 years for an engineering degree) and/or be able to complete your studies in the minimum period (students on an extended study period and those who have added a year to the minimum study period may NOT apply)
  • For B.Eng. Tech Engineering: Applicants must achieve the following results:
    • Level 5 (60 – 69%) for Mathematics and
    • Level 5 (60 – 69%) for Physical Science and
    • Level 5 (60 – 69%) for English First Additional language or
    • Level 5 (60 – 69%) for English home language or
    • Level 4 (50 – 59%) for English Second Additional Language
For Postgraduate Bursary

To be considered for the postgraduate bursary, applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Have completed the Matric
  • Be registered or qualify to register for full-time studies, towards the postgraduate degree qualification listed above, in 2025
  • Be registered or intend on studying at an accredited and approved University in South Africa (international studies will NOT be funded)
  • You must have achieved a minimum result of 65% for all courses you registered for in the 2023 academic year, for Honours or 4th year
  • Be in your final year of studying towards OR have completed one of the following qualifications: Applied Mathematics (BSc), Chemical Engineering (BEng / BSc), Chemistry (BSc), Computer Engineering (BEng), Computer Science (BSc), Electronic Engineering (BEng), Statistics (BSc)
  • Know which area of chemistry or chemical engineering you would like to study and be able to discuss possible topics that would support the current sustainability imperatives (it is not a requirement to have a formal project proposal ready – successful recipients will engage with Sasol technical experts and academic supervisors to finalize a project proposal)
  • Have a strong academic record
  • NOT have a criminal record
Required Documents:

Applicants are required to submit the following supporting documents as they are compulsory. Applicants who don’t submit these documents stand at risk of being disqualified. The documents are as follows:

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • 1st year students: Matric certificate (certified copy)
  • 2nd year, 3rd year, and Honours students: previous years’ academic results/ transcripts (on institution letterhead)
  • Master students: Honours academic results/ transcripts (on institution letterhead)

Sasol Bursary Application 2025 Closing Date

The deadline for the Sasol Bursary 2025 application is 17 May 2024. Applicants should endeavor to submit their applications before the closing date as late applications will not be accepted.

How To Apply

The Sasol Bursary 2025 online application is simple and you just have to undergo a few processes to get it done. Whether you are a newcomer or you have previously registered on the platform, this will help guide you on how to go with the application process. Those who have also registered before and have forgotten their passwords can also use the guide.

For New Users:

  • Go to the official website home page, click on log in, and select register.
  • Fill out the information required of you. Do the CAPTCHA
  • Open a new account on the website by clicking on “Create New Account”
  • An activation email will be sent to you, click on Activate Account, then verify your account afterward.
  • You will have to log in after verification
  • Click on the Sasol Foundation Bursary application which is located on the top left corner.
  • Fill out the required information
  • Read the disclaimer, accept the disclaimer by clicking on the white button so it turns blue
  • You can exit the page once you receive a response on your application (which will also be emailed to you)

If you have previously registered:

You will have to click on the login on the bursary website and provide your login information. The form will take you to the section you left incomplete.

If you are a previously registered user and have forgotten your password:

  • To request a new password, click the “Request new password” button.
  • Please provide the email address that you used to register.
  • To reset your password, an email will be sent to the email address that was initially registered.
  • Your password will be sent to you via email; you can then log in once you have received it.
General Application Note:
  • Each completed section will have a blue mark on the navigation at the top
  • The save and continue button allocated at the bottom of each section enables you to save your data
  • Click on save and continue before you exit or continue to the next section
  • If a section is incomplete and you click submit, the page will give you error messages
  • You may log in from the application form and use the login screen to complete your application form at a later stage before the date of closure. You will not be able to edit sections that you have submitted.

Applications that are incomplete or submitted late will not be considered. Also, applications sent by e-mail and/or not submitted through the official website of the Sasol bursaries will not be considered.
